HORSEMEN

IN ORDER TO GROW, SOMETHING MUST DIE.

Photography Artist Stefan Marcel Gerard first solo-exposition is a visual statement of his struggle with his own addictive past.

HORSEMEN is a limited edition print collection about Creative destruction. Within the impeding apocaplypse there are glimmers of beauty and reinvention. Joseph Schumpter, a social theorist popularised the notion of Creative Destruction in the 1940's. Creative destruction is the idea that in order to grow, something must die.

Who knew that facing our demons could be such a beautiful experience?

SOLO EXHIBITION SIRCLE COLLECTION

HORSEMEN is Stefan Gerard's first solo exhibition. The vernissage was organised by press agency Dutch Global Media and was hosted by the Sircle Hotel Collection in the signature Bar Claes hotel bar, a few yards from the Rijksmuseum.

'A DREAM ABOUT TRAMPLING HORSES
STARTED THE PROCESS.'

The artist gave a keynote about how a dream about trampling horses started the process of facing his own demons. His desire to share his experience inspired the HORSEMEN collection.

The goal of collecting a Gerard is to gift it to the next generation - in original state. This is why all artworks are delivered according to the highest standards. Each artwork comes professionally framed in grade 1 walnut wooden frame. Each limited work is printed on Hahnemule 100% cotton paper to create a crafty, matt - yet deep colour profile.

THE GOAL OF COLLECTING A GERARD IS TO GIFT IT

TO THE NEXT GENERATION.

To protect the paper from wrinkling over decades, it is attached to an aluminium surface. In addition, all artworks come with UV-protective museum glass which is galvanised on both sides during framing, to stop dust from accumulating over time.

COLLECTOR  PATRICK BRAND

Patrick is co-founder at Hoteliers.com, a direct booking platform for independent and midsize hoteliers in Northern Europe. Part of his passion for hospitality is reflected in the renovation of the top floor of his historical canal house in Amsterdam. 'We had two rooms upstairs and we decided to change them into a premium hotel experience in Amsterdam. We now call them the Spinoza Garden and Canal Suite.'

'I SAW HIS WORK BEING AUCTIONED AND IT THOUGHT,
''THIS IS WHAT I WANT FOR MY GUESTS''.

He tells me it has been an incredible journey to have one of the highest hotel ratings on Trip Advisor in Amsterdam. 'It's hard work' he explains, 'and it keeps me humble. We love to attract a the cultural guest and part of that experience is offering art right in our Spinoza Suites.'

'I met Stefan at the Amsterdam Diner Gala. When I saw his work being actioned I thought, ''This is exactly what I need for my guests''.'

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Stefan (1989) is a Photography Artist. He moved to Buenos Aires at an early age, where he got infected by the blend of European chic and Latin sensualness, a trait still clearly visible in his signature today.

Stefan's limited edition prints are inspired by Renaissance's greatest painters, Rubens and Caravaggio, who were able to tell a story on a - single - canvas. His work is subject to the Human Condition including timeless archetypical truths such as belonging, esteem, anger and hope. His collections are celebrated for their cinematic aesthetic.

'I AM HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY CARL JUNG AND

THE IDEA OF THE COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUSNESS.'

'I am heavily influenced by Carl Jung and te idea of the collective unconsciousness. It am still figuring why I do the things I do. I use photography as a medium to paint with archetypes. With these universal truths about the human condition I explore the unconscious. They help me to explain why I act the way I act. That is true art for me.'

He resides between Amsterdam and Cape Town.
